Why Join Us?

Apart from the great company... excellent fare... amazing items to bid on... and fabulous music...

The Ruth Washburn Annual Dinner and Silent Auction is our school's most important fundraiser. Proceeds from this and other, smaller projects throughout the year make up nearly a quarter of the school's operating budget. That means they help pay for teacher salaries, classroom supplies, scholarships, and more.

Your support helps us provide a stimulating, nurturing, child-centered education for our community’s 2 ½- to 5-year-olds.

Through small classes and a splendid variety of materials, music, art, movement, and dramatic play, children at Ruth Washburn creatively explore the world and discover how to uniquely express themselves.

We have a strong, environmentally conscious curriculum that includes a gardening component we're very proud of. The children compost their leftovers after snacks, maintain an organic garden, and learn firsthand about the lifecycle of plants as they grow and nurture their own.

You may be familiar with our recent garden hullabaloo. Theives raided our pumpkin patch in early October (twice) and stole the pumpkins our children had raised from seeds.

Thankfully, community members like you responded with great generosity of spirit, donating plenty of pumpkins (more than enough) so our children wouldn't go without and providing, as well, new irrigation supplies to replace those the theives carried off.

Now we're asking your support once more by inviting you to attend our 15th Annual Dinner and Auction.

You're guaranteed a lively, music-filled evening out in good company... and all for a good cause: the wonderful children of our Ruth Washburn community.

Featured Musicians:

Local blues guitarist Big Jim Adam with John Stilwagen will play two sets -- one at 5:30 p.m. and one at 8:30 p.m..

Originally from southeast Kansas, Jim Adam has been playing blues clubs since he was 13. Fittingly, today he runs Jimbo's Take 2 here in Colorado Springs. As a songwriter, Jim has several film credits, including The Waterdance, which starred Wesley Snipes, Eric Stoltz and Helen Hunt, in which both his song and performance were used. Plus a couple of his songs have been cut by Edgar Winter.

Jim's new album, Rock Island Line -- a collection of traditional and original blues material -- has charted on the Living Blues radio chart and the Roots Music Report and has been enthusiastically received by audiences.

He has opened for blues legend John Hammond, Ruthie Foster, folk icon John Stewart, Michael Johnson (“Bluer than Blue”), Jake Armerding, Cajun rocker Zachary Richard, amongst others. He is quickly being discovered by a national audience.

And you can hear him in person when you join us on November 15.

Silent Auction:

Our Auction Emcee is Kyle Troxel, News Director at KVOR-AM740.

We'll have a large silent auction with hundreds of items to bid on as well as select, choice items in a live auction. (Please bring with you cash, check, or credit card to pay for any item you win at auction. We'll be settling up on items at the event.)

Stop by the school for a copy of the full auction catalog or read on below for selected highlights on offer the evening of November 15.

All proceeds from this event benefit Ruth Washburn Cooperative Nursery School, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing children two-and-a-half through five years of age with an enriching preschool experience.
